Q. I would like to know how much current (AMPS) a home appliances with motor like a washing machine or dryer draws. What would be maximun current a washing machine uses during start up? Normally washers / dryers motor are 1/3 to 1/2 HP. What is a start up current for a washer which is rated at 110 volts, 9 amps? What would be wattage during start up? Any guidance is appreciated.

A. you cant, if anyone can name any domestic home appliance that generates enough heat for that to be transferred into a useful form of energy without the cost outweighing the benefit, I would be really surprised and definitely steal the idea.However, you should re-route the house plumbing and make a miniature hydro electric plant from the bath tub... that would be pretty sweet
