My bathroom has a really strong urine smell what could this be caused from and what is a way to get rid of it?

Q. I know it's a bathroom of course it's gonn'a smell like urine but it's so strong I can't barely stand it. I clean my bathroom about 3-4 times a month.

A. Do you have men or boys in your home? If so, the floors and walls around the toilet need to be cleaned regularly, as well as the toilet itself. You may need to replace the toilet seat and any bath mats or rugs that you have in the bathroom.

If you have carpet around the toilet it should be cleaned with something that will neutralize the urine. I've found that spraying white vinegar on the carpet works well. The vinegar smell will dissipate as it dries and you can then clean the carpet with something a little more fragrant.

Wall paper will also absorb urine and I've tried lightly spraying and wiping it with vinegar and it helps, but I've also had to completely strip the paper and paint the bathroom to get the smell out of the walls. Good luck. I hope you find something that will solve your problem.

When painting a bathroom, do you have to use a special paint to withstand heat and humidity?
Q. I am going to be painting my bathroom this weekend. I was wondering if I can use the regular matte finish in there or do I have to get a little gloss so it can stand the heat. I never close my bathroom door because it's inside my bedroom so I just close my bedroom door. It never gets THAT steamy in the bathroom because of that. I am just wondering though. Also, do you think it's nice to also paint the ceiling the same color as the walls? Or should I leave it white? I am doing a light pinkish color.

A. Don't use flat paint, I't grows mold really easy. I used to own a painting busines. We always used semi gloss or gloss paint for the bathrooms. I saw some one else recomend Behr paints from Home dept, My advice is not to use it. I found it required a lot of extra prep and even mutiple coats to get good coverage. I like the look of the bathroom walls and ceiling the same color.Good luck

What kind of ceiling lights or bathroom lights would be good for a teenagers bedroom or bathroom?
Q. For the bathroom I'm looking for one with three bulbs and for the bedroom a flush mount. my bedroom is aqua.
i'm not sure about the other details. and could you also add pictures with your answers?

How can I Remove stain from my Kitchen ceramic Tiles?

Q. Trying to clean my kitchen's Ceramic tiles . Does any one know a good way to clean stain from Ceramic tiles and how to prevent it in future.

A. Hi there, in my judgment Ceramic tiles are made from refined clay and other material. Maintenance is important through routine cleaning with mild soap and water. If you have some stains to remove, try a few of these suggestions to get your tile looking new again.
1.Clean the stained area with plain water and a soft cloth. Dry thoroughly.
2.Put on gloves. Use these to protect your hands even if the product is considered natural or non-toxic.
3.Mix borax and lemon juice together on a disposable plate or bowl. The consistency should be a paste-like substance. Rub onto the stain and allow it to dry completely. Rinse the ceramic tile with water and repeat until stain is gone.
4.Use a mixture of a vinegar and salt to make a paste. Apply to the rust stain and wait 4 to 5 hours and then rinse with hot water. Repeat as necessary.
5.Consider purchasing a Lustro Italiano cleaning kit. Apply to area with a moistened, soft cloth. This Lustro Italiano will remove the stain and not scratch surfaces.
These are the steps you want to follows remove the stain from the tile. If you want more information visit the website I search it on a net it helps me a lot if you were interested visit the website which is given below.

I Removed my ceramic tiles now how do you get rid of the left over grout?
Q. I Removed my ceramic tiles now how do you get rid of the left over grout? that was underneath the tiles?

A. Thats not grout under the tile. It is a product called thinset and the only way to get it off is to chip it out with hammer and chisel. Dont use a grinder as this will cause severe damage to the underlayment.

What is the best bedding for dwarf hamsters?

Q. I have tried a few different kinds of bedding, but I am not sure what is the best.
I have also heard that cedar and pine shavings are bad for their lungs.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

A. Eco bedding is a shredded paper bedding that lasts longer than just regular shredded paper. They like to tunnel through it too. I use it for my hamsters and gerbils.

What type of bedding do you like best for hamsters?
Q. Has anyone tried the shaved pine for hamster bedding? I found some but it looks like pine dust instead of shavings? What do you think?

A. i don't understand why people are getting thumbs down on the use of cedar and pine, some people like to argue "oh, it has never hurt my hamsters, and its fine for you too!" this is completely wrong, cedar and pine releases toxins into the air when urinated on, and over time cause respiratory problems, and if long enough, death, its so sad but its so preventable, you should never purchase cedar or pine wood shavings or dust, any type of dust shouldnât be used because it gets in the hamsterâs eyes, and can cause repiratory problems

the ONLY wood shavings you should be using are aspen wood shavings, they are safe for the hammy, and absorb odor fairly well, its also fairly cheap, the only downside to this is that sometimes there can be a particularly sharp piece, and can cause cuts on your hammyâs feet =\

my favorite type of bedding by far is carefresh, it is the best as absorbing smell, making a soft bed, and it comes in bigger pieces so it wonât get kicked out of the wire cage as much as other bedding will, the only downside is that it can be a tad expensive, but its really worth it

yesterdayâs news is also a very good bedding, it is made of recycled newspaper, it is soft, absorbent, and has other good characteristics like carefresh, downside being that it isnât as widely available as carefresh is, and i have yet to find it in a pet store near me

timothy hay is another bedding widely used, its probably the cheapest bedding to buy, but I personally donât like timothy hay, it doesnât help with smell, it is ALWAYS getting kicked out of the cage, and the sharp edges of the hay can cut the hamsters feet

there are also pellet forms of bedding, I have never used this kind, but its fairly inexpensive, plus it is very good at absorbing odors, the only thing i can think about it that would be bad, is it probably would get kicked out the cage constantly because of its small size

oh btw, donât use newspaper either, the ink on the paper is bad for the hamsters if they ingest it, some hamsters donât have a problem, but most die from ink poisoning, so donât run the risk with your hamster and donât use newspaper

EDIT: THANK YOU hamsterzgurl for just copying my answer, thats really mature, and is against the rules

At what age can I start butting ârealâ bedding on my 2 year olds bed?
Q. I hate that I do not have ârealâ bedding on my 2 year olds bed yet? When Can or should I start doing this? I would love to go in and see a bed that is made up and not just a crib sheet.
And I am not sure that they will even sleep under the sheets!

A. Like yesterday :) Two is usually the age where they can start using real bedding so have at it!

How can i make a good exterior paint myself?

Q. i live in australia and paint here is very expensive compared to back home in america. I have alot of exterior painting to do some on stucco and some on metal. I know that some people know how to make paints them selves and i would like to find a recipe for paint please

A. with the word good you can't.

Can exterior paint be used to paint an interior room?
Q. I was wondering if I could use exterior paint to paint my son's bedroom? I want something that will be very durable. If I can't use exterior paint to paint his room then I would like to know why I can't and a suggestion for something else that can hold up to being in a child's bedroom. Thanks!

A. exterior paint is a bad idea. it is very durable for outside, but stays much softer than interior paint, so that it will give/flex with the expansion/contraction of your exterior siding. also, it will smell much worse when applied. the epoxy idea that someone suggested is really stupid. you cant put epoxy over regular paint, it will lift/melt the latex paint that is on the walls. bad bad bad idea!!!
my solution:
first: quality if key to a good paint job
use benjamin moore paint, it is very good. i would suggest either an eggshell finish, which is more durable than a flat. as an alternative, the best, most durable, washable paint you can buy is a product called Regal Matte finish. it is a scrubbable flat finish that will be more durable than any other paint on teh market. it is expensive, but VERY good. you can get the regal matte finish at your local benjamin moore retailer. find one at http://www.benjaminmoore.com

What if I use exterior paint on the interior?
Q. I have some leftover exterior paint and I'm thinking of painting the inside of my garage with it. Is it okay to do that? Please explain.

A. It's okay to use exterior paint on the interior, but not vice versa. Exterior paint is more weather- and wear-resistant. Won't hurt a thing to use it indoors.

How to clean bathroom walls before painting?

Q. My bathroom walls are coated with hair, dust, fuzz from my towels and hairspay. I need to clean them before I paint. What cleaning products do you suggest I use?
Once cleaned, do I need to use a base primer? What type of paint should I use, Latex or Oil? How many coats? I already have the color chosen, I just need the how to tips. Thanks.

A. There is a powder cleaning product called TSP, that you can purchase at any hardware store. Follow the directions on the box.

Buy the primer KILZ. After the walls are completely dry, paint them with the Kilz.

Then apply a water based enamel paint.

Never use a latex paint in the bathroom because moisture gets under it and it starts to bubble and pull away from the wall. All bleach does is change the color of the dirt and sterilize it.

What is the best way to start a bathroom remodel when there is ancient paneling glued on top of bathroom tile?
Q. The bathroom needs a total makeover (vanity/walls/toilet/tub/shower). Most everything else we can handle, but I have no idea where to start with the walls. Any ideas? Thanks!

A. If you're going "all out", then you'll probably want to remove everything down to the studs - wallboard and tile together. First, turn off the water and remove all the fixtures. Disconnected the electricity to that room.
Then you can go after the ceiling and walls with a 5 pound sledge hammer and crowbar, working from the top down. Wear a hard hat and goggles when you do this. Broken tile shards in your eyes are not pleasant! You don't have to hit things that hard. The wallboard and tile should crack with a few blows and then you can pry it off with the crowbar.
Then you can cut out the old wiring and relocate it to your new configuration.
After everthing is ripped out, you're totally free to rebuild with more modern materials. You'll probably want a basic underlay of something like Wonderboard for the walls, followed by whatever finish surface materials you prefer.
If you're doing this yourself, get a good guide to the construction techniques. They are not difficult, but, in a bathroom or kitchen that gets moisture, it's important to work carefully so that there aren't any leaks or places where water can get to that could cause future mildew or rot.
Sunset has a bathroom book you might want to look at for starters. You can also get advice from places like Home Depot or Lowe's who also will have the materials you need.
Have fun remodeling!

how do i properly reset my bathroom plug in?
Q. my bathroom electricity plug ins are not working along with one wall in my room.
the reset buttons do not work i guess because i have unplugged everything and reset it!

A. Have you checked the breaker? If you don't know anything about electricity, don't fool around with it in a bathroom. All the pipes are grounded. Get someone who has done this before.

What's your best money saving tips?
Q. As a SAHM and just in general a frugal person, I am always looking for tips to save money. I will share a few of mine too. Here are my favorite money saving tips

Use a crock pot, it takes less money to run than your oves, saves tons of time, food turns out great, and it doesn't heat the house.

Use a Toaster oven. When I'm not cooking in the crock pot I'm cooking in my toaster oven. I bought one big enough to bake pies, bread, cake in square cake pan, cookies, chicken, steaks, etc..... I bought a regular toaster for making toast. I feel making toast in a large toaster oven is a waste of electricity.

Buy used when possible. I bought my sons loft bed for $150 the same exact bed sales for $1000 at our local kids furniture store. I bought his power wheels 2 seater jeep for $30. and I bought a Quadra Fire gas insert for $250, we were looking at the same one at a local store for $2500. These are just a few bargains I have found.

A. So many tips, so little room! I save plastic bowls from cottage cheese, yogurt, cream cheese, etc. They are great for organizing small items like nails and screws, or can be used when painting. Same for coffee cans. I save my daily newspapers and then wet them and roll into logs that I use in my fireplace in the winter. Freecycle is another great thing! I also clean and reuse plastic water bottles. I save my large plastic bottles for my greenhouse though. I will fill them with water, paint them with black spray paint and use them as a heat sink when the weather gets cold and my greenhouse needs warmth. When it warms up and the bottles are not needed, I use the water from the bottles to water my plants. Right now, I'm saving the caps from beer bottles to make a cool art project outside! It's my sister's idea! I mostly shop at thrift stores or consignment stores for clothing, and yes, I do hang my clothes outside on a clothesline!

What crafting, home decor, and/or fashion magazines can I subscribe to from the USA?

Q. I'm looking for inspirational crafting, home decor, and/or fashion magazines that will ship to the USA. I found a magazine called Frankie, but it's only available in Australia as far as I could see. Google searches didn't bring up anything that fit what I need. The magazines I do NOT want: sewing, crocheting, knitting, embroidery, quilting.

I plan on reading these magazines and cutting them up after I've finished them, all to add these inspirational images and articles to an inspiration board, and turn the remainder into envelopes for snail mail.

Please help?

Where can I buy really cheap home decor?
Q. I am buying my very first home, and I want it to feel exactly like that. HOME. Who wants a plain house with nothing in it? Besides the outrageous cost of getting the house, and having to fix up a few things, plus furnishing the place, I need some decor to make it feel more homey. I dont have much money left after buying all the other things. Does anyone have suggestions for cheap, nice home decor?

All suggestions are much appreciated! Thanks!

A. The very best way to obtain home decor at a rock bottom price is to always be on the lookout for these types of places:

Garage/Yard Sales
The GoodWill
The Salvation Army
Thrift Shops
Second Hand Shops
Consignment Shops
Your Friends and Family's Basements and Attics

Look past the finish on furniture and pay attention to the lines. You can refinish or paint just about anything. A $3.00 lamp base at the Salvation Army that is ugly can have new life with a can of spray paint.
Gaudy picture frames can become great frames for a mirror. Take the drawers out of a dresser, sand and stain them along with the dresser top, then paint the dresser black. A great look, indeed. An outdoor bench is a great asset in a house. You can get anything from rugs to liquor decanters at thrift shops. Shop for pillows in the clearance sections of Marshall's, TJ Max and Home Goods. Do not overlook new or used outdoor furniture to use inside. I made a great headboard out of a three paneled door turned sideways after filling in the doorknob hole and the hinge screws.

Find out when bulk pick up day is conducted in surrounding towns. Go out with a truck and you will be amazed at what people are throwing away. The best time to shop the Salvation Army and the GoodWill is in October, November and December when people are getting rid of their old furniture and replacing it for the holidays.

Paint is the least expensive and single most dramatic change you an make in any room. Pick warm colors and please do not pick white paint for your walls because it seems like a safe way out. Color in your home will instantly add the homey look you are after. Really.

Remember, buy only things you like and are capable of fixing up or you will end up with a bunch of stuff you hate in the long run.

Good Luck to you in your new home.

how do I find manufacturers for designs of home decor?
Q. I design jewelry and ceramics and recycle items into useful but decorative home decor items. I just don't know how to find manufacturers of home decor that would buy my designs or how to submit them.
Can anyone out there clue me in on how to do this?

A. interior design magazine would be a good resource, especially the annual buying/ merchandise guide, as it has the vendors broken down by category, incl. home decor. This or any other magazine aimed at the trade would be a better bet than, say, magazines aimed at homeowners, because trade pubs will have more manufacturers and fewer distributors. Good luck!
